Netflix loses a round in subtitle fight- A federal judge in Massachusetts had denied Netflix’s request to throw out a lawsuit brought by the National Association for the Deaf, which alleges that the service discriminates against the deaf and hard of hearing by failing to provide closed caption on all of the movies and TV shows available through its streaming service, Netflix says that it should not be subject to the requirements of the American With Disabilities Act, but “this argument is unpersuasive”, wrote U.S. District Court Judge Michael Ponsor in his ruling. “There’s no excuse for this, in our view, because movie already have captioning files”, said Howard Rosenblum, the deaf association’s chief executive. “What excuse does Netflix have for not including it in their Internet streaming video?”
